In my twenties, I was thrilled when my father, a portrait artist, taught me how to capture the essence of people in pastel on velour paper. My love of nature and animals, however, led me to capture the spirit of beloved pets and the magnificence of wild animals instead. My art has won awards both in Pastel and Photography in South Carolina, while my past work of wildlife has been represented by Charleston galleries when the coast was my home.
After relocating to Richmond, Virginia to be close to family, I wanted to expand, not only beyond animals as a subject, but also to use different mediums. Concerned about the plight of the planet, I wanted to help by doing my small part. So, I collected Styrofoam from my old job to use as my canvas, as well as reusing canvases I already had, and utilizing as many frames from the thrift store as possible, switching to acrylics in the process. (But, I must admit using pastels in rendering beloved furry family members is my first love.)
